The infrastructure system including roads, water, sewer, schools, and hospitals has the capacity to support nearly double the present population. The Town of Rangely's fiscal management is stable, prudent and progressive. The area has a traditional energy extraction economy, and government agencies and citizens are looking for ways to diversify the economy and promote business.

The Town of Rangely offers several community resources including Colorado Northwestern Community College, the Rangely Museum, Cedar Ridge Golf Course, Columbine Park Rodeo Grounds, the Rangely Regional Library and a recreation center with an indoor Olympic-sized pool.

Rio Blanco County contains many public lands including the White River National Forest (362,000 acres), the Bureau of Land Management (at nearly 1.5 million acres) and the Colorado Division of Wildlife (43,000 acres). A wide variety of outdoor activities are enjoyed here, including camping, hiking, four-wheeling, hunting, scenic drives, cross-country skiing, biking and wildlife viewing.

Physical Description of Rio Blanco County

Rio Blanco is located in the high desert at 5,200 feet elevation. The White River flows through Rangely. The county is largely rural and equidistant from Salt Lake City and Denver.
