Delta County Infrastructure

HIGHWAYS

Delta County is centrally located on the Western Slope of Colorado and can be easily accessed by U.S. Highways 50 and 550 and State Highways 92, 133, 65 and 348. The major combinations of U.S. 50 and 550 running north and south through the Western Slope serves as the only major north/south connection for the western half of the state. In the near future, Highway 50 North will be four-lane. Travel time to Interstate 70 will take approximately 30 minutes, once the expansion is completed.

AIRPORTS

Delta County is served by three airports:
  • Delta County Airport: Blake Field is a full-service public airport that serves local private and corporate aircraft. The runway, 5,600 feet, can handle small jet aircraft.
  • Montrose Regional Airport: offers daily commercial air service to Phoenix and Denver.
  • Walker Field Airport: located in Grand Junction, offers service from three major airlines with daily flights to Phoenix, Denver and Salt Lake City.

RAIL

Passenger rail service provided by Amtrak is available within 30 miles of Delta. Union Pacific stops in Delta and offers freight transport around the world.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS

Delta features telecommunications services from two major companies. Along the Highway 50 corridor, which includes the Delta area, service is provided by US West/Qwest. The balance of the county is served by TDS Telecom. Both offer digital switching enhanced telecommunications services. Office services include call waiting, preferred call forwarding, caller ID, Centrex, PBX, key systems and voice mail. Data communication and broadband width service range from dedicated ISDN access to frame relay up to multiple T-1. Both provide dedicated internet business solutions. DSL service is not available at this time.

US West/Qwest provides the Delta area with digital technology, carrying Delta telecom traffic over a fiber optic backbone that spans to Grand Junction and then to the Denver Metro area.
TDS Telecom has invested heavily to upgrade its infrastructure with extensive fiber optics and digital switching to provide the latest features for residential and business users.
