ROADS

Western Colorado is crossed by several major highways and I-70. These routes, and many others, are kept open year round. Major routes include:

  • I-70-runs East-West across Western Colorado servicing Grand Junction and Glenwood Springs to Denver.
  • Hwy 40-runs East-West from the Utah border through Craig, Hayden and on to the Denver area.
  • Hwy 139-runs North-South from Utah to Rangely and on to Grand Junction.
  • Hwy 13-runs North-South from Wyoming through Craig to Rifle.
  • Hwy 50-runs North-South from Utah through Grand Junction, Delta, and Montrose. Turns to East-West through Gunnison and on to Pueblo.
  • Hwy 550-runs North-South from Montrose to Durango and into New Mexico.
  • Hwy 160-runs East-West from Arizona to Cortez, Durango and Pagosa Springs to I-25 on the Front Range.
AIR
Thanks to Western Colorado's strong tourism economy, the area offers extensive air service options. The area boasts 6 commercial airports in Durango, Cortez, Gunnison, Montrose, Grand Junction and Hayden (Steamboat Springs). Commercial airlines offer service to regional hubs Denver (for United), Salt Lake City (for Delta) and Phoenix (for America West). Several communities also feature service to cities across the U.S. including Houston, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Los Angeles, New York, Newark, Minneapolis and St. Louis.
RAIL
Western Colorado is serviced by the Union Pacific/Southern Pacific line for freight. Amtrak offers passenger service in Grand Junction and Glenwood Springs.
